The film festival recognizes those enslaved 110 Africans illegally shipped as human cargo from Dahomey (present-day Benin) in Africa aboard the Clotilda slave ship in 1860 and uplifts the Africatown community that the Clotilda Africans founded. Today’s community of descendants and local residents continue Africatown’s 100 years of struggle to overcome ongoing social, economic and environmental challenges.
