March 15, 2025Â // Ceremony at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Reception at Government Plaza
A tornado forecast and a reception venue change 48 hours before the big day couldn’t stop Mattie and Thomas from getting married in what turned out to be a beautiful celebration despite the chaos. The bride and her bridesmaids got ready that morning amidst uncertain March skies, the bride wearing a diamond watch passed down through the women in her family and her engagement ring (and later wedding band) belonging to her groom’s grandmother.
During bridal party photos, the bride’s veil flew off three times and ripped due to the wind. But the mayhem vanished when the doors to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the bride’s home parish, opened at the beginning of the wedding Mass, revealing a large gathering of guests and a smiling groom at the end of the aisle. The vows, choral music, Eucharist and litany to the saints marked the beginning of the bride and groom’s new life together.

After the ceremony had ended, the newlyweds and their guests continued to Government Plaza, transformed into a charming gala for the night, complete with soft blues and colorful accents. After a second line entrance, the newlyweds had their first dance. All in attendance enjoyed food and drinks, along with huggers inspired by the Crichton Leprechaun in honor of the St. Patrick’s Day weekend festivities. As rain poured down outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, the bride and groom danced the night away with their guests on a packed dance floor, a testament of the love that ultimately defined their wedding day.
