10 Must-Do Outdoor Activities

1. Paddle 

Launch your kayak or canoe at Halls Mill Creek and paddle on down the Dog River Scenic Blueway at The Great Drift on April 18. The River Shack will host a post-drift party featuring live music and discounted food for registered paddlers. There is no cost to participate, but donations are welcome for the Dog River Clearwater Revival. On June 6,  partake in a modern version of the Chinese water sport as teams of 22 race in 46-foot dragon boats at the Fuse Project's Dragon Boat Festival,  pictured above. Better start assembling your crew!

2. Run

Running has never really been my thing, but color bombs and after parties just might change my mind. Check a 5K off your bucket list by participating in the Azalea Trail Run on March 28,  Color Me Rad on April 18 or Hoot Scoot in Fairhope on April 24. Tip: When registering for the Color Me Rad 5K, use promo code “RMHC” to save 10 percent off your registration fee and a portion of your fee will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile.

3. Toss

Whether you prefer a fish or a bean bag, now's the time to warm up your throwing arm. Don't miss the Corn Hole Classic on April 18 where teams of two will duke it out in a double elimination bracket – blind draw corn hole tournament. Proceeds benefit The Family Center, a non-profit that works to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect. A week later, head down to the beach for the Flora-Bama's annual Interstate Mullet Toss where people from all over the globe come to throw a mullet from a 10-foot circle in Alabama across the state line into Florida. The weekend also includes a crazy beach party with lots of fun activities, great music and food.

4. Sail

Enjoy three days of sailing fun including two competitive races and a party on the island at the Dauphin Island Race

5. Serve

Grab some friends and assemble a team for the annual Serve it Up with Love tennis tournament benefiting the Mobile Child Advocacy Center. The Ladies Tournament is played in a team format with four courts of doubles. Sign up as a team of 8 – 10 players. The Men’s Tournament is played in a combo team format with three courts of doubles. Sign up as a team of 6 – 8 players. The Junior's Tournament is a boys and girls singles event. The play is an Eight Game Pro Set with no ad scoring. Cost for each tournament is $35 per player.

6. Triathlon

For the hardcore athletes out there, check out the Mullet Man Triathlon on April 18 or the Grandman Triathlon on May 30. The Mullet Man triathlon begins with a 1/2-mile swim in the Gulf of Mexico, followed by an 8.5-mile biking segment and a 4.2-mile run to the Flora-Bama. The Grandman race begins with a 1/3-mile swim in Mobile Bay, followed by an 18-mile bike ride through Fairhope and a 3.1-mile race to the finish line. Now that's a workout!

7. Golf

Hit the links at the Hope Cup Golf Tournament on May 14 to benefit the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute's Fund for Excellence. The tournament features a putting contest, prizes on each hole and more. A team of four costs $1, 600.

8. Slide

If you've ever dreamed about sailing down a 1, 000-ft water slide, you're dream is about to become a reality. The highly anticipated Slide the City water slide event is coming to Mobile June 26 – 27. Early bird registration is $15 for a single slider, $30 for a triple slider and $50 for a VIP slider.

9. Fish

Reel in your best catch at the Kyser Miree Memorial Fishing Tournament in June and the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo in July. Each tournament awards prizes for first, second and third place in a variety of categories.

10. Vault

Join beginner and elite pole vaulters as they launch themselves high in the sky on the streets of LoDa at Dauphin Street Vault on July 18. Registration is $25 in advance and $35 on the day of the event.
