September 2025: 4 Local Restaurant Dishes to Try

From the crab cakes at Pour Baby to the filet at NoJa, here’s what our food contributors are raving about this month.

Jumbo Lump Crab Cake from Pour Baby

Jumbo Lump Crab Cake at Pour Baby

“A chance visit with friends took this Midtown gal out to Pour Baby in WeMo. As the evening drew to a close, I had to ponder, ‘Why have I not been here before?’ My entree, the jumbo lump crab cake, was phenomenal and full of flavor. Citrus microgreens on top and a Dijon mustard sauce took the crab cake, which actually contained crabmeat and not filler, to another level. Needless to say, I am glad those traffic lights on Airport Blvd. are in sync so I can reach Pour Baby faster — and more often.” – Ginny Behlen, Dietitian, WIC at Mobile County Health Department

Panko Encrusted Haddock at Oui Oui Paris

“Oui Oui Paris Owner and Chef Diane Hagedorn has a hidden gem tucked away in Fairhope. With a French flair to most of her dishes and a menu full of wonderful offerings, it’s hard to say which is my favorite. However, the Panko encrusted haddock has to be at the top of my list. Crispy and flaky, the fish is packed with flavor, perfect for a nice dinner out on the Eastern Shore. Oui Oui Paris is located on Plantation Boulevard and is open for lunch and dinner.” – Buddy Bates, Retired Vice President and Property Manager for Regions Bank

Bacon at Bill-E’s

“Once a month, I have a strong craving for Bill-E’s bacon. That thick-cut, brown sugar-smoked bacon … it just does something to my soul. Maybe it’s the signature smoky-sweet flavor. Or maybe it’s the local musician that serenades the pork as it’s prepared. Either way, my guy Bill Stitt knows what he’s doing when it comes to bacon. It’s a must on any dish at his restaurant in Fairhope, whether it’s a burger, sandwich, hot dog or even sprinkled on a salad. You can’t go wrong.” – Cam Jackson, Director of Membership, Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce

Bill-E’s • 9992 Hwy 181, Fairhope. 281-2663

8-ounce Filet at NoJa

“NoJa in downtown Mobile is a great dinner spot. I started with the crispy chicken karaage, then had a warm spinach salad with bacon, blue cheese and shallots. My main dish was an 8-ounce filet cooked medium rare and drizzled with a red wine reduction. It was tender and perfectly cooked, served with Brussels sprouts and their tasty house potatoes. For dessert, we shared a ginger doughnut with caramel sauce and popcorn ice cream. Everything was flavorful, well-cooked and made the whole meal feel special but not too fancy.” – Toots Otts Weaver, Real Estate Agent, Courtney & Morris Real Estate

NoJa • 6 N Jackson St., Mobile. 433-0377
