January 8: First Light Marathon

Downtown Mobile

7:30 a.m., marathon, half marathon, relay; 2 p.m., fun run and kid's marathon. Run for a cause beneath a canopy of oaks in the heart of downtown Mobile. The event consists of a full marathon, a half marathon, a five-person relay and a 1.2 mile fun run for both runners and walkers. Proceeds benefit L'Arche Mobile.

Noon – 4 p.m. Calling all Bay area brides! Don't miss this workshop where some of the best local wedding professionals will share their expert advice, provide inspiration, discuss new trends and much more. Registration is $25. 

January 13: LoDa Artwalk 

Downtown Mobile

6 p.m. – 9 p.m. A monthly block party for artists, roadside musicians, foodies, patrons and the curious, all united by Mobile's unique culture.

Chickasaw Civic Theatre • 801 Iroquois St., Chickasaw 

7:30 p.m., Fri. – Sat.; 2 p.m. Sun. When nuns accidentally poison their sisters, they put on a talent show to raise funds for funerals. Tickets range from $13 – $16. 

Through January 14: Riverside Ice

Cooper Riverside Park  Downtown Mobile

11 a.m. – 10 p.m., Mon. – Thurs.; 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. Fri. – Sat.; Noon – 8 p.m., Sun. Lace up your skates for some winter fun on the ice at downtown Mobile's coolest attraction. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for kids 12 and under.

January 21: Fairhope Brewing Co. Anniversary Party

Fairhope Brewing Company • 914 Nichols Ave., Fairhope. 

Noon. Beers on tap, live music, commemorative glassware and all of the shenanigans you've come to expect from FBC's annual anniversary party. 

January 28: Reese's Senior Bowl

Ladd-Peebles Stadium • 1621 Virginia St.

3 p.m. Watch some of the nation's most talented college football players, including Tennessee's Joshua Dobbs, Oklahoma's Dede Westbrook and Alabama's Ryan Anderson, play in the battle between North and South. Tickets range from $10 – $30. In addition to the game, be sure to stop by one of the other Senior Bowl events going on throughout the week, including FCA Chick-Fil-A Senior Bowl Rally on Jan. 25, Coca-Cola Meet the Players on Jan. 27,  the Reese’s Senior Bowl Experience on Jan. 27,  Food for Less Tailgate Party on Jan. 28 and Baumhower Tailgate Challenge on Jan. 28. 

January 28: Krewe de la Dauphine

Dauphin Island

Laissez les bon temps rouler! Kick off Carnival season on Dauphin Island with the Krewe de la Dauphine parade.

January 28 – 29: Winter Romance

Saenger Theatre • 6 S Joachim St.

7:30 p.m., Sat.; 2:30 p.m., Sun. Korngold’s Violin Concerto and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1 are sure to banish the winter blues. This performance by the Mobile Symphony also features works by some of the Romantic Era’s best-known composers: Wagner, Korngold and Tchaikovsky. Tickets range from $15 – $75.
