We Need a Little Christmas

True,  it feels more like Easter than Christmas around the Gulf Coast right about now (unless you typically celebrate Yuletide in New Zealand). But good news for those who appreciate a little frost with their festivities! You, too, can experience the seasonal joys of a winter wonderland just down the highway at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi.

Enter the lobby to find towering Nutcracker sculptures and oodles of flocked towering Christmas trees, decked in fluffy white feathers and sparkling glass ornaments. The festive décor welcomes visitors for the newest Beau live show, “Santa & Friends On Ice, ” which runs through Dec. 27.

The spirited performance features (who else?) the big guy in red (Scott Rousseau) and his pals, who happen to be world-class figure skaters in glitzy costumes doing flips, spins and lifts that one typically finds on TV each January, once every four years. In addition, Santa’s elves, brothers Charlie and Junior (Adam Brown and Greg Bonin), add comedic relief, alongside vocalist Mrs. Claus (Galen Crawley).

Skating acts include a whimsical mini performance of The Nutcracker, in which Clara and her prince wow the audience with their jaw-dropping toe loops (or was that an axel?) and elegant lifts. In “Jingle Bell Rock” principal soloist and associate choreographer Michael Chack gets the audience in the spirit and clapping along with his impressive, lively number chock-full of tricks. The Adagio Team’s playful performance of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” and the exquisite female solo of “The Christmas Song” are equally impressive.

And, the kiddos will particularly enjoy the finale in which a few lucky little audience members get to join the cast on the ice, riding in one of four glistening red sleighs pushed around the ice by figure skaters decked out as reindeer. And this is all just the tip of the North Pole iceberg! With a mix of classic and modern holiday music, “Santa & Friends On Ice” is sure to be a hit with the entire family.

Afterward, show your ticket at one of the Beau’s top-notch restaurants to receive 15 percent off your bill. Plus, if you’re feeling extra cheerful, don’t miss pictures with Santa in the famous Buffet Dec. 13 – 17 and 20 – 24 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. You’ll be treated to a special holiday menu, milk and cookies and complimentary photos for up to two children with the purchase of each adult dinner. Now doesn’t it feel more like the holidays already?!
