Ever wanted to try a Hot Yoga class but could never find the time? Or maybe you have wanted to help out your community without knowing where to begin. This Saturday, Feb. 21, you can do both.
PAWSitively Mobile and Rejuvenate Alabama join forces to host “PAWS for a Cause, ” an event aimed at promoting personal health and raising awareness for local animal welfare. The event features two 90-minute Bikram Hot Yoga classes beginning at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
“Teddy, the instructor, reached out to us [PAWSitively Mobile] and wanted to help after he came to our first event [in October 2014]. He's a friend of a few people on the board and I've personally been to his classes. So I was super excited for the opportunity to do something fitness-related to step outside the usual mold on animal charity outreach events, ” Aaron McCants, a board member for PAWSitively Mobile, said.
The classes are entirely donations-based, and a portion of the proceeds from the day benefits PAWSitively Mobile. The organization focuses efforts on reducing the unwanted animal population around Mobile through trap-neuter-return (TNR) techniques. By vaccinating, spaying and neutering unwanted cats and dogs in the area, PAWSitively Mobile hopes to reduce the number of animals living in – and being born into – harsh conditions.
In addition, after treating the animals and releasing them back into their original habitats, volunteers ensure the animals are properly fed and hydrated, so as to live a humane life.
PAWSitively Mobile was founded in late summer 2014 and has been steadily growing ever since. After this Saturday’s event, how else can you help them out?
“Volunteering! We are getting feedback and outreach from communities that want us to come in and help with cat and dog colonies in their area, but we need as many helpers as possible to get that part rolling, ” McCants said.
Join PAWSitively Mobile and Rejuvenate Alabama in sweating out all those Mardi Gras treats and drinks at 10 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. this Saturday, and have your donation ready! To reserve your spot, call 251-307-5531. Participants should bring plenty of water, a yoga mat and a towel to the event.
