August 3: Pelican Paddle

Tonsmeire Weeks Bay Resource Center • 11525 Highway 98, Fairhope.
7:30 a.m. Grab your canoe, kayak or paddle board, and get ready to race across Weeks Bay. An eco-tour paddle is available if you choose not to compete. Advance registration: $30/paddler, $70 family. Day-of registration: $35/paddler, $85/family.

August 8: Water Balloon Battle of Mobile Bay

Cathedral Square • Downtown Mobile
5 p.m. – 6 p.m. To mark the 155th anniversary of the Battle of Mobile Bay, there will be an epic naval encounter in downtown Mobile. But this time, the battle will be on land and cannons will be replaced by water balloons and super-soakers. Bring super-soakers and a towel — you’ll want to dry off before heading to the shops, galleries and restaurants after the battle is decided. Water balloons will be provided.

August 8: Southern Grace Dinner Series: Chris Shephard

Fisher’s at Orange Beach Marina • 27075 Marina Road, Orange Beach.
6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Sit down and dine with Chef Chris Shepherd, as the series spotlights his James Beard Award-winning talent. Tickets: $145.

August 8: Glow in the Park Movie Series

Fairhope’s Community Park • 105 S Church St., Fairhope.
8 p.m. – 10 p.m. “Incredibles 2” will be on the big screen, and all you need are blankets, some snacks and the family to complete the evening. Attendance is free.

August 16 – Sept. 1: “Matilda”

The Joe Jefferson Playhouse • 11 S Carlen St.
7:30 p.m. F / Sa. 2 p.m. Su. Delve into the the world of Matilda as she navigates school and combats its foul headmistress. Tickets: $15 – $25.

August 20: American Idol Auditions

7:30 p.m. The country superstar brings his talents to the Gulf Coast with special guests Chris Lane and Riley Green. Tickets start at $20.

August 24: Dauphin Street Beer Festival

Downtown Mobile
6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Sample over 70 different beers at 24 taverns and restaurants! Your $30 ticket will get you a commemorative mug, a temporary membership card and a wristband to access the different venues.

August 29: Chef Challenge

Fort Whiting Armory • 1630 S Broad St.
6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Enjoy live music, a silent auction and complimentary beer and wine as the area’s best chefs compete and show their skills, fighting hunger and benefiting Feeding the Gulf Coast in the process. Admission: $75.

August 31: Chris Stapleton

The Wharf Amphitheater • 23101 Canal Road, Orange Beach
7 p.m. Experience the “All American Road Show” with special guests Brent Cobb and The Marcus King Band. Tickets start at $149.
