Fair weather, a historic venue, personal details and family and friends combined to create a scenic wedding day for Lena Cole and Duncan. The couple met during their first year of medical school and got engaged at the end of their third year. After graduation, they celebrated another milestone by both matching at the University of South Alabama — Duncan in emergency medicine and Lena Cole in OB/GYN.
The Grand Hotel served as the perfect setting for the couple’s wedding weekend, its beauty complemented by custom elements and an understated palette of ivory, cream, beige and soft taupe. The evening ceremony began on the grand lawn, as the bride walked down a flower-bordered aisle to meet her groom. Lena Cole chose an A-line silhouette with delicate floral lace throughout. She paired it with a custom-made lace bolero that extended up to the base of the neck, adding a classic and elegant detail to the gown. The couple shared their vows and first kiss under the moss-draped oak trees near the Bay, the sunlight glittering on the water.
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a cocktail hour on the south Bay lawn before moving to the reception on the patio and in the ballroom. Soft candlelight, white orchid-forward floral arrangements and gold accents in the ballroom created an elegant affair, with linens adding pattern and texture. The bar sported custom arch backs, matching fronts and inserts, all designed by Studio08, creating a sophisticated showpiece. Food, drinks, music, laughter and dancing lasted long into the night, highlighting the joy of a personal celebration spent with the people who supported the newlyweds throughout their lives.
