Recipe: Fall Apple Fritters

Serve with apple butter, for dipping, or vanilla ice cream for an extra decadent fall treat.

2 teaspoons baking powder
2 cups cake flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 tablespoons butter, melted
1 cup 2 percent milk
1 teaspoon orange zest
2 cups diced apples
powdered sugar, for dusting

1. Mix wet and dry ingredients separately and then fold together. Refrigerate mixture for 1 hour.

2. Heat oil in pot or fryer to 350 degrees. Scoop 1 ounce portions, and safely place in hot oil. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes.

3. Place on cooling rack or a plate lined with paper towels. Lightly dust with powdered sugar.
