Every event and tradition has looked very different this year than it has in years past, and Mardi Gras is no exception. Once parades were officially canceled by the city, Mobilians poured their souls into finding creative ways to celebrate safely.
Some borrowed larger than life float parts and installed them in their front yards, while others made their own decorations to contribute to the community effort of celebration. From there, Mobile Porch Parade was born. With over 400 houses and businesses participating, a few wonderful citizens created a website with a map (mobileporchparade.com) to locate each participant as well as a song list to accompany you on a self-guided Yardi Gras tour.
If you’re not sure where to start or are out of town and want to feel a little bit of home, watch the video below. It’s sure to make you feel nostalgic for Mobile and if you’re local, it’ll point you on the right path to start the Yardi Gras fun. Mobile Porch Parade runs through Fat Tuesday (February 16).
