13 Reasons We Love Mobile

A few of the many reasons we're proud to call this place home

1. TREES
Jagged sidewalks and an endless canopy of shade give Midtown its charm. A good Mobilian never takes those sprawling oaks for granted.

2. SEAFOOD
What do people in other cities order when they go out to eat? It’s fresh or bust around here.

3. RITUALS
Cannon painting and graveyard widow vigils might be strange everywhere else, but around here, it just feels right.

4. MARDI GRAS
Speaking of rituals, there’s not much we need to say about this one…

5. HOMES
An old Port City home never lacks character: intricate fireplace details, transom windows and creaky hardwood floors make it home sweet home.

6. COMMUNITY
Only in Mobile are some of your best friends your neighbors. Street parties, supper clubs,  impromptu happy hours on the front porch…it’s all about fellowship.

7. AZALEAS
Mobile is at its most beautiful during that little sliver of spring when the whole city is covered with hot pink blooms.

8. WATER

Frog gigging, floundering and soft-shelling are a rite of passage in this town, and we’re blessed to live in a place where it’s so easily accessible.

9. MUSIC
Whether it’s dancing along to the Excelsior Band as they parade down Government Street or singing along to The Mulligan Brothers at a crowded Callaghan’s, the tunes of this city are unique and diverse.

10. RAIN
We all gripe about the unpredictable (yet so predictable) weather every now and then, but there’s something comforting about the smell of the air after a good Mobile downpour.

11. DAUPHIN STREET
Where oh where would we be without this beloved street? Go to a concert, see a movie, celebrate local art, go shopping, picnic in the square, drink beer or grab a bite to eat no matter what you’re craving (tacos, barbecue, sushi, pizza, oysters…the sky’s the limit).

12. HISTORY
Living in Mobile is kind of like taking a step back in time, and we’re totally OK with that.

13. ART/CULTURE
Strolling the streets of downtown during LODA Artwalk never gets old: a glass of red wine, bustling galleries, pop-up street musicians, the smell of fresh roasted peanuts filling the air. You’re guaranteed to run into friends, and probably make some new ones, along the way.
