Best Breakfasts

It’s the most important meal of the day, so you better make it count. Here's a list of some of our favorite local bites to grab on the go.

Assorted doughnuts from Sugar Rush

1. Sugar Rush Donut Company

Where: 4701 Airport Blvd.
When: 6 a.m. Tuesday – Friday | 7 a.m. Saturday – Sunday
What to Get: Sugar Rush’s enormous apple fritter is hard to beat. Apples are diced and reduced in a cinnamon sugar concoction before being loaded into dough,  fried and glazed. A close second: the red velvet doughnut. It’s sinfully decadent.

2. Mostly Muffins

Where: 105 Dauphin St.
When: 7:15 a.m. Monday – Friday
What to Get: The Bacon Cheddar Muffin is the most delicious thing you’ll find for less than $2 on any menu in town.

3. FOY Superfoods

Where: 119 Dauphin St.
When: 7:30 a.m. Monday – Friday
What to Get: The Power Paleo Pancakes made with almond flour and flaxseed and topped with pure maple syrup or fresh fruit and honey. Tip: These pancakes also freeze well! Reheat in the toaster for a quick paleo breakfast at home.

4. Cream & Sugar Cafe

Where: 351 George St.
When: 7 a.m. Tuesday – Sunday
What to Get: You can’t go wrong with the famous gumbo and grits or the breakfast burrito stuffed with Conecuh sausage and scrambled eggs. Make sure to grab a cake ball (or two) for an afternoon snack.

5. Panini Pete’s

Where: 102 Dauphin St. • 42 1/2 Section St.,  Fairhope.
When: 8 a.m. Monday – Friday
What to Get: Pete’s beignets are a given, but if you really want to kick it up a notch, try a Chicken Beignet Slider. It’s like a chicken biscuit…but so much better.

6. Chaleur Method Brew & Espresso

Where: 2100 Airport Blvd.
When: 8 a.m. Monday – Saturday
What to Get: With an endless variety of French-inspired sweets and pastries, it’s hard to pick a favorite. The blackberry, blueberry and cherry financiers are a good place to start. Oh, and don’t forget the coffee. These folks know what they’re doing.

7. Spot of Tea

Where: 310 Dauphin St.
When: 7 a.m. every day
What to Get: Eggs Cathedral, hands down. A grilled English muffin is topped with a crab cake, scrambled eggs and a creamy seafood sauce with grouper and crawfish. Any questions?
