Bottoms Up

How does that “Hair of the Dog” saying go again? Mardi Gras may be over, but that doesn't mean the good times have to end. From wine bars to cocktail classes, here are a few of the places we'll be boozing at this month.

Spirits

HABERDASHER
As you may have heard, downtown Mobile's coolest place for cocktails will be closing their doors (temporarily) on March 31 until they find a new location to call home. From now until close, the crew will be giving away free (yes, free) tacos and arepas when you open a tab. We'll see you there.

THE GRAND HOTEL
Each month, the Beverage Manager at the Grand Hotel teaches classes at the resorts’ Beverage Academy located at the entrance to The Grand Steakhouse. The classes are aimed at expanding the participants’ knowledge of beverage basics while also incorporating more advanced techniques. In each class, participants receive a one-hour beverage demonstration, recipes, beverage sampling and a diploma. The next class, scheduled for Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m., will cover pitcher-style preparations of Sangria and Planters Punch. Classes cost around $15.

Wine

POUR BABY
Pour Baby is one of those places you kind of hope no one else finds out about so you can keep it all to yourself as your own little escape from the real world. Unfortunately, it seems the secret is out about this hip new joint out in WeMo serving up fine wines by the glass, craft beer and a variety of artisanal cheeses and small plates. If there was ever a place to relax and un'wine'd (you see what I did there?), this is the place.

SOUTHERN NAPA
The quaint atmosphere of Daphne's neighborhood wine house will make you feel like you kicked back in your own home. Stop by after work for a glass out on the deck, or make plans to attend a wine tasting and food pairing event. If brews are more your speed, they also offer a large selection of domestic and imported craft beers.

Beer

LODA BIER GARTEN
From porters to stouts to IPAs, the 150+ beer selection is ridiculous and easily the best place in town to try something new. If you're hungry, they also have some sinfully amazing burgers to complement your favorite drink. Three words: Sugar Rush Burger.

OK BICYCLE SHOP
It may not be the first place that comes to mind when you're on the hunt for a cold one, but Bike Shop's vast beer selection (and unique margaritas) never disappoint. Since Mobile decided to have a winter this year, the heated back deck is the ideal spot to warm up with an order of chips and the always delicious Queso Fundido.
