4 Local Dishes To Try This Month

MB’s contributing food fanatics share their go-to local dishes.

Mother Clucker at Grace on Dauphin

MOTHER CLUCKER AT GRACE ON DAUPHIN
“When I saw “Mother Clucker” listed on the lunch menu at Grace on Dauphin, I just knew I had to try it. This is a one-of-a-kind chicken sandwich that is served fried or grilled (I got mine grilled). The chicken breast has been brined in sweet tea prior to being cooked and is topped with a flavorful bourbon bacon jam, Wickles pickles and Alabama white BBQ sauce. This sandwich is a delicious combination of flavors made all the better when served on a toasted bun. The shoestring fries on the side are an added bonus!” – Mary Shannon Hope, Portfolio Manager and Operations Manager, Leavell Investments

LEMON PEPPER GRILLED CHICKEN CAESAR SALAD AT HEROES SPORTS BAR & GRILLE
“Lunch at Heroes Sports Bar & Grille is a no-brainer. They conveniently have lots of choices on the menu, and offer great service and plenty of sports on TV. My go-to order is their lemon pepper grilled chicken Caesar salad. The chicken is tender, perfectly seasoned with a nice zing. The salad itself is a generous portion. The whole dish is like a broken drum: hard to beat. Owner David Rasp sure knows what he’s doing!” – Phil Proctor, Musician and Social Studies Teacher, McGill-Toolen Catholic High School

BBQ CHICKEN WINGS AT BOAR HOG’S BARBEQUE & CATERING
“Don’t skip this quaint little restaurant serving big flavors. On my first visit, I ordered BBQ chicken wings and a side of potato salad just for me. The wings were perfectly smoked and slathered in a tangy, sweet and zesty sauce. The potato salad was a great complement. On my next visit, not wanting to be selfish, I got a rack of ribs for the family. It was finger-licking good.” – Vicki Davis, Assistant U.S. Attorney

FLOUNDER PICCATA AT THE FAIRHOPE INN
“The Fairhope Inn not only has great food, but a complete renovation in 2019 made it one of the nicest restaurants in the area as well. During my last visit, owner Paige Dawson suggested a new entree on the menu called flounder piccata, and it was outstanding. The flounder, which is the perfect selection for this dish due to its mild flavor, is pan sauteed with a lemon caper beurre blanc sauce over a parmesan and diced-pepper orzo pasta with sugar snap peas. Definitely worth a try!” – Jay Weber, Executive Vice President, Baldwin County Executive, ServisFirst Bank
