December 31, 2025 // Ceremony at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Reception at The Country Club of Mobile

When sisters Mary Rose and Hallet DeMouy got engaged within a month of each other, they originally thought they’d plan their two weddings simultaneously. But when one of their wedding planners suggested they have a double wedding, the idea turned out to be more than fitting. Two of the brides’ aunts had had a double wedding, and after discussing the idea with them and watching their wedding video, Mary Rose and Hallet were on board — and after a little convincing, so were Will and John, the future grooms!

The brides decided that if they were going to have a double wedding, they would make it a big party. They arranged a New Year’s Eve celebration with the traditional Catholic ceremony giving way to a black-tie reception, a thoughtfully planned evening to accommodate two couples in a way that still felt individual to each.

The evening ceremony began at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, the brides’ lifelong parish. The wedding parties entered, followed by immediate family, the priests, the grooms and their best men. The doors reopened to “Trumpet Voluntary” as Hallet walked down the aisle, accompanied by her father. She wore her engagement ring that belonged to her groom’s late mother and has been passed down through his family, and held a bouquet wrapped in lace from his late mother’s wedding dress with a small locket holding her photo as her something borrowed; Hallet’s something blue was her groom’s great-great-great-grandmother’s handkerchief.

After the flower girls and ring bearers processed down the aisle, the doors re-opened to Pachelbel’s “Canon in D” as Mary Rose made her entrance with her father, wearing a tiara-style headpiece passed down from her groom’s family, a lace-covered, long sleeved wedding gown, a Chantilly lace veil from one of her bridesmaids and a sapphire ring from her groom as her somethings old, new, borrowed and blue. The two brides and two grooms stood on the altar side by side, receiving blessings and exchanging vows.

When the ceremony came to a close, all made their way to The Country Club of Mobile, a venue the brides grew up frequenting, for the reception. The party started on the patio with a cocktail hour. As guests got their drinks, the newly married husbands and wives processed in with their wedding parties with the Excelsior Band leading the way, Mardi-Gras style. After the newlyweds were served Champagne, a brilliant fireworks show surprised guests and kicked off the party.

A martini bar served dirty martinis and cosmos, complementing the pink-and-green color scheme, with espresso martinis to keep the party going late into the night. Inside, guests enjoyed passed hors d’oeuvres and a buffet as the live band kept everyone on the tonal, green-checkered dance floor, dancing and singing throughout the night. Sumptuous flowers filled the room and disco balls sparkled from the ceiling, bringing New Year’s Eve magic to the venue.

The brides alternated between who would do the traditional moments first, with Hallet and John having their first dance first and Will and Mary Rose cutting the flower-covered cake first.

As midnight approached, the newlyweds handed out 2026 glasses, hats and headbands to the guests and the band counted down. At the stroke of 12, confetti poppers went off as “Auld Lang Syne” played. Shortly afterward, the newlyweds made their exit to blue and red convertibles, marking the end of a day that was meaningful, full of energy and double the fun.
