For Elizabeth Collins, owner of Living Well, designing the rooms for tween daughters Woody and Mary Frances was a fun collaboration. The bedroom of Mary Frances is an oasis of cool, with pale pink walls and a glimmering gold ceiling. Other touches of metallic sheen add sophistication, while bright pop art, sleek lucite furniture and a gold tassel swag made by a friend keep the look youthful.Featured in “4 Amazing Kids’ Rooms,” August 2018. Collins’ daughter, Woody, chose the turquoise and purple color combo used on the bed skirt and curtains, while mom pulled in Greek key trim to add a grown-up touch. The fabric headboard is a nod to Woody’s equestrian passions, and a sleek pouf makes a comfortable spot for working on the computer. Featured in “4 Amazing Kids’ Rooms,” August 2018.

girls bedroom with statement pieces

Location: Springhill
In this dainty girl’s room designed by March & May, a vintage-style bed looks fresh and fun when painted an unexpected color. The cool blue keeps the pinks from going too sweet. As a fun and unexpected addition, the butterfly bolster’s bold colors balance out the softer shades of the other fabrics.

Additionally, the floral wallpaper in the little girl’s bath was a major commitment, but solid accents, such as the curtains, stool and vanity, keep the room from feeling busy. Neutral floors, counters and trim tone it down as well. With a fussy wallpaper, keep everything else tailored. Featured in “Beautiful Layers,” January, 2020.

Vintage-inspired iron beds look great with a fresh coat of black paint. March & May layered it over a traditional oriental rug that the homeowner had rolled up in the back of the attic. Casual nautical prints and a modern pop-art lamp are contrasted with a weathered wooden chest and old-fashioned buffalo check blankets. No two things look like they came together, but they certainly belong with one another now. Featured in “Beautiful Layers,” January, 2020.

Location: Josephine
Located in the beach home of local interior designer, Suzanne Winston, this bunk room provides plenty of places for kids and guests to rest, with a bold wallpaper accent wall and a map of Pleasure Island by local artist Melissa Smith finishing the look. White bedding feels clean and crisp, is easy to mix and match among brands, and bleaches well at the end of a vacation! Additionally, a bright white bathroom continues the home’s color scheme with green and blue tiles and tropical art. Featured in “Peek Inside this Beachy Fixer-Upper,” May, 2019.
